Day 1: Arrive in Santiago de Chile

On this wonderful tour, you will experience Santiago guided by your senses. During your first stop, visit the historic Santa Lucía Hill, which is a lone steep rock that is adorned with wonderful facades, fountains, stairways and where the city was founded in 1541. From there, continue to the París-Londres neighbourhood where you will find examples of famous European architecture within the areas surrounding buildings. A little later, get to know the unique culture of Santiago by sipping coffee at one of the notorious “café con piernas”. From there, you will visit some of the most popular streets of the city, filled with history and home to bustling commerce. Later, head towards the Central Market known for its cuisine and exotic fish stores. You will also experience the Vega Chica Market, which boasts some of the best flavours, scents and colours of this metropolis. It is here that you will try one of Chile's traditional drinks known as Cola de Mono. Winding down, your final stops will be to a renowned flower market filled with colorful displays and beautiful scents, followed by a tour of the cultural Lastarria Neighbourhood, where you will find sights and sounds unique to this amazing city. Soon after, you will be returned to your hotel in Santiago.

After boarding the Skorpios II, you will set sail through the archipelago of Llanquihue with sights of the city of Calcubo in the Ancud Gulf taking center stage. By 4:30 in the afternoon, you should arrive in Quemchi, found on beautiful Chiloe Island. After making your way to land on small vessels, you'll disembark and visit the picturesque town, perhaps chosing to explore the local market and cafes, or to visit the museum of Chilean author Francisco Coloane. In the early evening hours, you'll once again set sail toward the south reaches of Chiloe Island, and by midnight, will be sailing through the Gulf of Corcovado.

In the early morning hours, you'll navigate through the channels of Moraleda and Ferronave, soon arriving to the fishing village of Puerto Aguirre. Here you will disembark to explore this lovely village nestled in the Chonos Archipelago. Stroll through the towns streets to reach a native Patagonian forest, which quickly brings you to an excellent lookout point. In the early afternoon, back aboard the Skorpios II, you'll explore more of the Ferronave Channel, and soon cruise through the neighbouring Pilcomayo and Casma channels. In the late afternoon, you'll arrive at Islote Barrientos. In this remote and rugged part of the world, you'll approach the rocky island formations on smaller boats to visit one of the largest bird colonies in Chile. Here you will find seemingly countless numbers of Kelp Gulls, Rock Shags, Reg-legged Shags and Imperial Shags, which are typically accompanied by a colony of South America fur seals. Soon after, you'll return to the Skorpios II and set course for either Caleta Quesahuen or Punta Leopardos. In either case, the aim is to overnight within striking distance of the San Rafael Glacier.

In the morning hours, you will pass through the Tempanos Channel to reach the entrance for the San Rafael Lagoon. Here, just two kilometers (just over 1.5 miles) from the San Rafael Glacier, the ship will anchor. You'll then make your way on smaller vessels toward the glacier to take in sights of muliticoloured icebergs, provided that weather conditions permit the excursion. After exploring the San Rafael Lagoon and Glacier, the Skorpios II will set sail in the direction of the Quitralco Fjord.

In the morning the ship will berth at the pier of Quitralco. Following breakfast, you're invited to explore the area, and a top recommendation is to visit the nearby hot springs. With indoor and outdoor options, a plunge in the warm waters is a favourite amongst locals and visitors alike. If weather conditions permit, you'll also have the opportunity to participate in small boat excursions into the fjord. Regardless of weather conditions, in the late afternoon the Skorpios II will set course toward Chiloe Island, navigating through the channels of Moraleda and Perez Norte.

The early hours of the day (beginning just after midnight) have you passing through the Leucayec Channel, reaching the Gulf of Corcovado at approximately 5:30 in the morning. This is of significance as - if timing, weather conditions and luck is on your side - both humpback and blue whales are regularly observed in these waters. It is certainly worth the early rise if you are fortunate enough to see either species roaming wild. In the late morning a more consistent experience awaits. As you arrive to Islote Conejos in the Queilen Channel, you'll board smaller vessels to visit the nearby island that is home to a large colony of Magellan penguins (among other bird life). In the afternoon, you'll sail past the islands of Lemuy and Chelin, arriving to the town of Dalcahue in the late afternoon. Here you will disembark and are encouraged to visit some of the local highlights including the handicraft market, the church and the picturesque promenade. In the early evening, you'll board the Skorpios II, which will now be sailing for Puerto Montt, and settle in for a night accented by the Farewell Dinner.
